The 48th annual Tiger Days Golf Outing, hosted by the Marshalltown Community College Athletic Department, concluded with another successful year. This year’s edition was held at the American Legion Memorial Golf Course on Thursday, Sept. 10.

“This year’s event was a huge success,” expressed MCC Director of Athletics Dan Huntley. “I believe that we continue to have our student athletes connect with our community in many different ways and Tiger Days is a great example of our student athletes developing relationships with some of our best supporters.  Each of our teams were showcased at a hole on the course during the event and our students were able to interact with each group as they passed their assigned hole.  They were able to share in the on-course events and introduce themselves, making connections with the golfers who support them with scholarship money.  In talking with many of the golfers after the event, the highlight other than the beautiful day was having the chance to interact with our student athletes and see them off of the competition court or field.”

This year’s winning foursome consisted of Brandon Dutton, Chad Gould, Kip Hilderbrand, and Rob Sandvick.

“Four years ago, the decision to move Tiger Days from its traditional August date was made so our student athletes could be a central part of the event,” Huntley stated. “I know we made the right decision as we continue to raise additional funding for athletic scholarships each year through Tiger Days and through other avenues that provide greater opportunities for our coaches to recruit quality student athletes to our institution. “

Participants had the opportunity to engage in conversation along with multiple activities scattered throughout the course with MCC student-athletes. Events included a punt-pass challenge, volleyball spike contest, and a free-throw shootout on select holes.

"It's always a great experience to meet the people that support our programs," stated MCC men's soccer sophomore and captain Daniel Barrera. "As student-athletes, were lucky to have their support. We can't thank them enough for everything they've done for us and the entire athletic department."

"Overall," Barrera continued, "it was a great day, especially to have all of the student-athletes involved, helping out, because all of the participants help us out tremendously. It was a great outcome overall."
