Record 20 Tigers Earn NJCAA Academic Honors

Twenty Tigers were named to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) All-Academic Teams for the 2016-2017 school year. Ten Tigers received the award in the 2015-2016 school year. There was a total of 6,006 student-athletes named to an NJCAA All-Academic team, a significant increase from the 2015-2016 academic year.

In order to earn this recognition, a student must complete a minimum of 24 semester hours with a GPA of 3.60 or higher. The NJCAA All-Academic First Team recognizes student athletes with a 4.0 GPA, the NJCAA All-Academic Second Team recognizes student-athletes with a GPA between 3.80-3.99, and the NJCAA All-Academic Third Team recognizes student-athletes with a GPA falling between 3.60-3.79.

Sophomore women's basketball player Barbara Araoz (Neuquen, Argentina/Maria Auxiliadota) capped an outstanding athletic and academic career as a Tiger earning NJCAA All-Academic First Team, the only Tiger to do so. This was the second time Araoz earned the national honor. Araoz was also named to the All-Iowa Academic Team, one of two recipients from Marshalltown Community College.
