Johnson Welcomed as Head Baseball Coach

Dr. Kathleen Brown and the Marshalltown Community College Athletic Department welcome Kim Johnson as the new Head Baseball Coach. "We are excited to have Kim join our staff as our Head Baseball Coach," stated MCC Athletic Director Kathleen Brown. "His wealth of experience and dedication to his players really stood out to both me and the committee throughout the interview process. We look forward to him building on the programs' previous successes and creating his own culture as he takes us into a new era of Tiger Baseball."

Coach Johnson brings 30 years of coaching experience to MCC with six years of experience as an assistant coach and 24 years as head coach. Johnson has enjoyed success throughout his coaching career as he has tallied 472 wins in his junior College coaching career and another 76 wins at the NCAA Division 1 level.

Johnson grew up in central Iowa and is excited about coming back to the area. "To me this feels like coming home, I graduated from MCC and played for Babe Harder while I was here," Johnson stated after arriving on campus. "I'm excited to try and meet the challenges this NJCAA Region presents in order to get to the NJCAA World Series." The 2017 Baseball team went 20-33 and 8-16 in the conference. MCC finished third in the conference behind Iowa Western (22-3) and Indian Hills (14-10).

Johnson's lengthy coaching career has helped him form a team identity and he knows exactly the type of student athletes he wants in the program. "My expectations of our student-athletes are that they work hard both on the field and in the classroom.  I also expect them to be great citizens and leaders on campus and in the community." Johnson also commented on the player's work ethic stating, "All I can ask at this point is that they buy into working hard and giving great effort.  If these players do that, the wins should take care of themselves." Johnson began his tenure at MCC on August 15.
