46th Annual Tiger Days a success

The 46th Annual Tiger Days Golf Tournament concluded with a successful turnout on Thursday, hosting 27 teams and over 100 golfers at the American Legion Golf Course in Marshalltown.

Rob Sandvick, Tyler Slagle, Cole Jansen, and Brad Lane were the winning foursome for the tournament. Red VanCleave was the winner of the longest drive on the second hole, Paul Gregoire converted the longest putt on the 11th and Clint Collins won the closest to the pin contest on the ninth hole.

Tiger Days began in 1967 and has been held every year since, supporting the student-athletes at MCC. Golfers were welcomed to a banquet dinner following the conclusion of the 18-hole tournament.

MCC Director of Athletics Dan Huntley was pleased with the exceptional turnout at this year’s event. “The 46th Annual Tiger Days was a huge success in many ways.  We increased participation by 55%, we increased major sponsor participation by 25% and we connected our Tiger Athletic Department supporters through personal interaction with our student athletes on the course. We have some tremendous supporters in our community who keep coming back and many who have now returned to share their lives with our student athletes as well as providing a great source of donation to help offset the cost of our athletic scholarship allocations.”

“We hope to take the momentum of this year’s Tiger Days and roll out the newly realigned Tiger Athletic Club (TAC) over the next few months.  The TAC has been and will be a strong part of the athletic program as we seek to get our student-athletes, parents, friends, fans and our community involved for the betterment of our student athlete experience.”

“We are looking forward to the 47th Annual Tiger Days Golf Tournament tentatively scheduled for another September date in 2014 at Elmwood Country Club.”
