The Marshalltown Tigers held off Guilford Tech on Sunday afternoon, dropping the Titans 7-6 in Jamestown, NC. The Tigers scored three runs in the top of the sixth inning to help lift their record to 4-2 on the year.

Daryl Blaskovich paced the Tigers with three runs batted in on the day. Allen Austin was a perfect 2-2 at the plate with one walk and one run scored. William Salas managed to score three runs on the day, including the eventual game-winning score in the sixth inning.

Brett Baker pitched three innings in relief to pick up his first win of the season, allowing just one earned run and striking out three. Ron Gombos got the start on the hill for the Tigers, striking out eight batters in just three innings of work. Taylor Moon pitched the seventh inning to earn his first save of the year. The three pitchers combined to allow zero walks on the day.

The Tigers got on the board early, scoring two runs in the top of the first inning. Salas scored the game's first run after first baseman Tyler Evans singled through the right side. Blaskovich put Marshalltown up 2-0 after a bases loaded walk was issued to Andrew Utterback.

Guilford went hit for hit with the Tigers, scoring two runs on two hits in the bottom half of the first. Marshalltown answered right back in the top of the second with an RBI-groundout from Blaskovich to score Eric Kent. The Titans tied the game right back up in the bottom of the second with a run of their own.

After a scoreless frame in the third, Marshalltown took the lead in the top of the fourth. After Guilford went to the bullpen, Ty Russell lined a pitch up the middle to score Salas and put the Tigers up 4-3. Baker entered in the bottom of the fourth and sat the Titans down in order. Guilford eventually got to Baker, scoring one run on two hits to tie the game at four heading into the sixth.

Marshalltown provided its biggest inning of the day in the sixth after the first three batters reached base. Blaskovich put the Tigers ahead with a two-run sacrifice fly, scoring Kent and Allen. With two outs, the Tigers called for a double-steal which resulted in Salas scoring the team's final run, putting Marshalltown up 7-4.

After a rocky start to the seventh, Moon settled down. The Titans scored two runs in the inning but Moon was able to get a groundout to close out the game and seal the victory for Marshalltown.
