Tigers fall on walk-off, drop a pair to No. 20 Crowder

Neosho, MO—For the second straight day the Marshalltown Community College baseball team fell on a walk-off hit as the Tigers dropped a pair of road games to No. 20 Crowder College. MCC (7-9)fell 1-0 in the opening game and dropped game two 10-1.

Alex McCune (Johnston, IA/Johnston) provided a strong performance on the mound in game one for the Tigers, pitching six scoreless innings while striking out three. The right handed freshman got out of three straight jams in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings, stranding four runners over the stretch. The Roughriders hit pay dirt in the bottom of the seventh with a walk-off single to take game one.

The offense continued to stall in game two as the Tigers collected just three hits. Bennett Mann (Marshalltown, IA/Marshalltown) scored the lone run for the Tigers in the fourth inning. Danny Smith (Oyens, IA/Remsen Union) took the loss for MCC.

Neither offense came alive in the first game on Saturday as there were just seven combined hits. MCC put two runners on in the second inning due to walks but failed to get another base runner until Pedro Lopez () hit a single in the top of the fifth. Daryl Blaskovich (Brentwood Bay, BC/Lambrick Park) reached base on a single in the sixth but failed to advance and the Tigers went down in order in the top of the seventh.

Julio Batista (San Juan, PR) relieved McCune to start off the seventh inning. Crowder put its leadoff batter on base due to an MCC error. A passed ball advanced the runner to third, setting up the Roughriders' walk-off single to end the game.

The Tigers are off until March 10 when the team travels to Lake Land College for a doubleheader.
