Mann, England pick up weekly ICCAC honors

Sophomore pitcher Richard England (Centerville, IA/Centerville) and sophomore outfielder Bennett Mann (Marshalltown, IA/Marshalltown) led the Marshalltown Community College baseball team to four-straight Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) wins over Muscatine Community College last week and have been awarded weekly accolades from the conference. England was named the ICCAC Pitcher of the Week while Mann was selected the ICCAC Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending April 6.

Mann picked up his second conference player of the week honor after belting four home runs in a pair of wins against the Cardinals on Sunday. In the four wins, Mann went 6-11 with five extra base hits and drove in eight runs while scoring eight times. The sophomore boosted his batting average to .273 on the year and ranks second in the league with eight home runs.

While the offense was plentiful in Muscatine over the weekend, England dominated on the mound with a complete game victory on Saturday. The sophomore improved his overall record on the year to 3-1 and lowered his team-leading earned run average to 3.13. England struck out a career-high eight batters while scattering three hits.

After splitting a doubleheader with cross-division rival Des Moines Area Community College on Tuesday, the Tigers resume home play with a pair of nonconference games against Riverland Community College at 2:00 PM on Wednesday afternoon at Shawn Williams Field.
