The Marshalltown Community College baseball team heads to the NJCAA Division I Region XI Tournament at Pat Daugherty Field in Centerville, IA this weekend. The Tigers, the No. 3 seed, will take on No. 2 seed Iowa Western Community College in the opening round at 11:00 AM on Saturday.

Indian Hills Community College earned the top overall seed in the three-team, double-elimination tournament and will have a bye to start off the day. The loser of Saturday's opening game between the Tigers and Reivers will play Indian Hills at 2:00 PM while the winner of game one will play the Falcons at 5:00 PM.

Pending the outcome of Saturday's results, the two remaining teams will play for the regional championship the following day. If all three teams remain 1-1 after day one, Indian Hills will receive a bye on Sunday.

The Tigers posted a 21-31 mark overall on the year and finished 9-15 in conference play. The Tiger offense has been paced by an array of hitters throughout the year, including Daryl Blaskovich (Brentwood Bay, BC/Lambrick Park) and Ty Russell (Victoria, BC/Lambrick Park) who rank first and second on the team with batting averages of .309 and .295, respectively. Bennett Mann (Marshalltown, IA/Marshalltown) leads the conference with 13 home runs on the year.

John Bloom (Laurel, IA/East Marshall) has emerged as a top pitcher for the Tigers, winning three of his last four starts, including two against Indian Hills.

MCC advanced to the Region XI championship game in 2013 as the No. 3 seed for the second time in three seasons. After losing the opening game against No. 2 seed Indian Hills, the Tigers bounced back to defeat Muscatine Community College and followed that up with an upset of Indian Hills to eliminate the Falcons. MCC eventually fell to top-seeded Iowa Western in the championship game.

Live stats will be available for all MCC contests throughout the tournament.
