Two players from Sioux City East High School inked their National Letter of Intent to play baseball for head coach Rich Grife and the Marshalltown Community College baseball team on Wednesday afternoon. Kaleb Hanks and JJ Stephens will join the Tigers in the fall of 2015.

Both players were first-team All-Conference selections as juniors in 2014 in leading the Black Raiders to a 23-16 record. Stephens, an All-District selection will bring talent to both the infield and the pitching mound for the Tigers while Hanks was an All-District outfield selection.

Stephens hit .345 last season for East with 28 runs scored while also posting a 2-2 record on the mound. Hanks collected 48 hits during his junior season and posted a .440 batting average.

"Both of these guys come from a very strong high school program," said Grife. "They'll be able to adapt to the college game right away."

"Caleb handles the bat really well," Grife added. "He'll be a solid addition for us at the plate. "JJ is a strong two-way guy. Despite some injuries, he's been able to hit everywhere he's been and will be a pretty valuable guy in a number of ways for us."
