The Marshalltown Community College baseball team has added another prospect for the 2016 season, signing Knoxville High School senior Tony Salato to a National Letter of Intent on Monday.

Salato gave a verbal commit to the Tigers in October, but made it official on Monday afternoon, joining JJ Stephens and Kaleb Hanks of Sioux City East High School in the MCC recruiting class.

In the latest edition of the Iowa Prep Baseball Report, Salato was ranked as the No. 44 prospect in the state. A versatile player, Salato collected 47 hits for the Panthers for a .385 batting average as a junior in 2014. Salato also saw time on the mound, recording eight saves. Salato threw out 11 runners from behind the plate as well.

"Tony is a great sign for us," exclaimed MCC head coach Rich Grife. "We were excited when we got the verbal commitment, now we're ready to get him on campus in the fall."

"Tony's a very unique player," said MCC assistant coach Tanner McLaughlin. "He can play anywhere on the field at a high level. He's got a strong passion for the game and a great work ethic. We're excited to have Tony join our program."
