Tigers fall twice at home to Kirkwood

Marshalltown, IA— Coming off of a 16-run performance, the Marshalltown Community College baseball team fell twice at home on Tuesday to Kirkwood Community College, scoring a total of six runs. The Tigers dropped game one 8-2 and fell in the nightcap 12-4.

After a two-run first inning from the Eagles, MCC loaded the bases to start the bottom half of the opening inning, but were only able to manage one run as Anderson Villarroel (Caracas, Venezuela/U.E. Santisima Caridad) scored on a wild pitch.

Kirkwood added two in the second to take a 4-1 lead. Villarroel singled to score Colin Schroeder in the bottom half in hopes of keeping pace with the Eagles. However, the MCC offense fell flat the rest of the way, stranding five runners the remainder of the game.

Villarroel and Schroeder both had two hits apiece in the loss. Jorge Michael (Caracas, Venezuela/Claret) took the loss on the mound.

Game two saw the Eagles plate two runs in the opening inning again, but the Tigers answered with two runs of their own as Alexis Melendez (Trujillo Alto, PR/IBAHS) singled to score Villarroel and Logan Holtz (Urbana, IA/Center Point-Urbana).

After a strong start, the Tiger bats fell silent for the second straight game as Kirkwood pulled away. The Eagles took the lead with two runs in the third before adding four in the fourth. MCC managed just two runs the rest of the way as Bryan Ventura (Carolina, PR/Next Level America) doubled and scored in the fifth and Schroeder singled to score Melendez in the sixth to round out the scoring.

Pedro Lopez (Naples, IA/Naples) and Melendez both had two hits in the game two loss for the Tigers.

The Tigers head to Ellsworth Community College tomorrow to complete last week's suspended game where the Tigers currently hold a 9-8 lead in the top of the fourth. The two teams will also play another game after game one is completed.
