Engel Rosario named ICCAC Batter of the Week

Freshman Engel Rosario (Santo Domingo, DR/Cenapec) of the Marshalltown Community College baseball team has been named the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Division I Batter of the Week after carrying the Tigers to a 4-2 record last week.

Rosario provided his best stretch of the season last week, posting a .400 batting average along with a .900 slugging percentage. Rosario posted five extra base hits, including a pair of home runs against conference foe Indian Hills Community College over the weekend.

Of the team's six games last week, Rosario reached base safely in all of them. The freshman opened the week with a 3-4 performance with three runs scored in a 16-8 win over Iowa Central Community College. Rosario added two more hits in a 7-3 win over Southwestern Community College.

Against Indian Hills, Rosario provided the lone run in the opening game of the weekend series, a 2-1 loss, with a solo home run. Rosario blasted his team-leading seventh home run of the year, a three-run shot in the first inning of game two Saturday as MCC rolled to a 10-4 win. Rosario's RBI-double in game one on Sunday secured a 2-0 win for the Tigers and clinched the No. 3 seed in the upcoming Region XI Tournament.

Rosario is tied for second in the conference with his seven home runs, just one off the lead.

The Tigers head to the Region XI Tournament this weekend where they will open up play against Indian Hills who earned the No. 2 seed. First pitch is set for 2:00 PM on Friday.
