Ceballos tabbed as National Pitcher of the Week

Freshman Diogen Ceballos (La Vega, Dominican Republic/Liceo la Romana) of the Marshalltown Community College Baseball team added to his weekly accolades as the freshman has been named the NJCAA Division I Baseball Pitcher of the Week.

Ceballos becomes the second Tiger to earn national recognition after fellow freshman Enmanuel Lopez was named the NJCAA Division I Baseball Player of the Week on April 7. Ceballos was also named this week's Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Pitcher of the Week, giving the Tigers four conference pitcher of the week honors this season.

The freshman made his first-career start in an 11-0 win over Kirkwood Community College on Tuesday, tossing five scoreless innings while allowing just four hits. In a conference doubleheader against Indian Hills Community College on Sunday, Ceballos earned a save in each game as the Tigers defeated the Falcons 1-0 in each contest.

Ceballos pitched a scoreless ninth inning after MCC took a lead in the top half of the inning to secure the victory on the road. In the series finale, Ceballos entered in the seventh inning and once again shut down the Falcon hitters with a scoreless frame.

Ceballos also added a 3-5 performance at the plate against Kirkwood and used a run-scoring double to lift the Tigers over Indian Hills on Saturday as MCC took three out of four from the Falcons this weekend.

The Tigers have postponed their originally scheduled nonconference doubleheader against Kirkwood on Thursday. MCC hosts Muscatine Community College at Shawn Williams Field for a four-game conference series beginning at 1:00 PM on Saturday.
