A no-hitter from sophomore Juan Carlos Gonzalez (Piedra Blanca, Dominican Republic/Salome Urena de Henrriquez) of the Marshalltown Community College baseball team has landed the southpaw this week's Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Division I Pitcher of the Week honor.
Gonzalez stifled Milwaukee Area Technical College with a five inning no-hitter on Sunday afternoon, striking out nine batters without allowing a walk. Only two batters reached base in the 14-0 Tiger run, both by way of an error. The Tigers swept the Stormers with a 6-2 win in game one.
Gonzalez, who owns a 2-1 record on the mound this year, leads the ICCAC with 34 strikeouts and ranks 11th in the nation with 13.50 K/9.
Gonzalez joins Diogen Ceballos (La Vega, Dominican Republic/Liceo la Romana) to earn conference pitcher of the week honors. Luis Duran (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic/Centro de Estudio Espaillat), Tony Salato (Knoxville, IA/Knoxville), and Enmanuel Lopez (Santiago, Dominican Republic/Prepara) have all been named player of the week as well for the Tigers.
MCC returns to action on Wednesday afternoon with a home doubleheader vs. Kirkwood Community College at 2:00 PM.
