Baseball, softball gear up for busy ICCAC weekend

A busy weekend is ahead for the Marshalltown Community College baseball and softball teams with a full slate of Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) contests. The Tigers are in the final stretch of the regular season and are looking to make a push for their respective upcoming Region XI tournaments.

The baseball team will hosts Southwestern Community College for a four-game series at Shawn Williams Field. First pitch on Saturday is scheduled for 1:00 PM while Sunday's twinbill will begin at 12:00 PM.

MCC (15-22/4-8) is coming off a 16-11 nonconference win at Ellsworth Community College. The Tigers snapped an 11-game losing streak with Thursday night's win. The Tigers swept Southwestern (13-27/1-11) in all four games in the previous conference series on March 30 and April 1.

Softball will split its weekend action with a doubleheader at Indian Hills Community College at 12:00 PM Saturday before returning home for two games against Iowa Western Community College at 2:00 PM on Sunday. Sunday's contests mark the regular season home finale for the Tigers where eight sophomores will be recognized for their contributions to the program between games.

The eight sophomores are: Josie Carpenter (Wapello, IA/Wapello), Jordan Carter (Sigourney, IA/Sigourney), Tess Cheetham (Oceanside, CA/Oceanside), Courtney Fudge (Pleasant Hill, IA/Des Moines East), Samuari Jones (Louisville, KY/Seneca), Lexie Larson (Des Moines, IA/Hoover), Paige Taylor (Coquitlam, British Columbia/Terry Fox), and Lexie Valentine (Des Moines, IA/Saydel).
