Tigers Fall in Conference Play

The MCC baseball team hosted ICCAC games Thursday night at Shawn Williams Field as the Reivers of Iowa Western Community College came for a doubleheader. After having four games postponed and two cancelled early in the week, the Tigers were finally able to get out on the field. The #16 Reivers entered the contest 24-5 and riding a six game winning streak. The Reivers streak increased to eight Thursday night, defeating the Tigers 15-2 in game one and 10-0 in game two.

Game 1: Lost 15-2

The Reivers got off to a fast start in game one, taking a 5-1 lead into the second inning. The Reivers added five more runs in the third inning and another four runs in the fourth. Freshman Walter Hernandez started on the mound for the Tigers and struggled early, facing 22 batters and surrendering eleven hits and ten runs. The Tigers offense struggled as well, recording only four hits as a team. Carter Eldridge provided the lone bright spot in game one for the Tigers, ripping a single in the bottom of the fifth inning that brought Brodie Paulson in for the score.

Game 2: Lost 10-0

The Tigers' struggles continued in game two, as the offense stalled and the Reivers' bats continued to stay active. After a scoreless first inning by both teams, the Reivers scored two runs in the second inning before going off in the third inning with seven runs. The Tigers were never able to respond, recording quick outs all the way down the lineup, with only sixteen at bats in the five-inning game. Duncan Snider was given the start on the mound, facing 15 batters and surrendering six hits and seven runs. Christopher Lopez came in in relief after two innings, pitching the final three innings Lopez faced six batters, giving up three hits and three runs.
