Tigers Fall to Trojans of NIACC

The MCC baseball team were able to play on a rare nice spring day on Friday, April 20, hosting the Trojans of North Iowa Area Community College at Shawn Williams Field. The Trojans entered Friday's contest with a 19-17-1 record while the Tigers stood at 4-20 and 2-8 in conference play. Friday's game was scheduled as a lone nine-inning game but would only last seven, as the Tigers walked away with a 17-9 loss.

Both teams added a single run in the first inning before the Tigers plated three in the bottom of the second. The momentum did not last long as the Trojans struck back in the top of the third with four run and added another five in the fourth inning after a grand slam by Bryce Ball. The Trojans would add four more runs in the fifth and hold the Tigers scoreless to take the game in seven innings.

While the Tigers did not get the win, they did hit the ball well with a .357 team batting average.  The Tigers had only scored nine runs two other times this season, winning both previous games. Elijah Bergeron continued to play well at the plate on Friday afternoon, going 3-4 with an RBI. Luke Woodward was plugged in as the Designated Hitter, going 2-3 with 2 RBIs and a walk.

The Tigers will host the Spartans of Southwestern Community College on Saturday and Sunday to a pair of ICCAC doubleheaders. The Spartans and Tigers split earlier in the season with the taking game one 5-3 before falling 21-8 in game two. Saturday's doubleheader at Shawn Williams Field is set for a 1:00 Pm start.
