0-4 in Weekend Conference Play

The Marshalltown Community College baseball team traveled to Council Bluffs, Iowa on Saturday for a four game ICCAC series. The Tigers entered the weekend with a 6-10 conference record and looked to make headway. The #7 Reivers were 38-5 and a perfect 16-0 in the conference and extended their perfect conference record, taking all four games against the Tigers.

Game One: Lost 15-0

The Tigers struggled early in game one, surrendering two runs in the first inning. The Tigers were unable to make any strides at the plate, Reiver pitcher Indiago Diaz moved to a perfect 8-0 this season after making quick work of 17 batters. PJ Maldonado Rodriguez got the start on the mound for the Tigers, pitching two innings after giving up six earned runs.  Down 6-0, Diego Almonte came in the game for Rodriguez. Almonte pitched the final two innings, giving up eight hits and nine earned runs.

Game Two: Lost 6-0

The Tigers continued to struggle at the plate, recording only three hits all game. Iowa Western scored two runs in the first inning and two more in the second inning, after a scoreless fourth they added single runs in the fifth and sixth innings. Iowa Western's Ben Dotzler moved to 4-0 after throwing all seven innings and striking out eleven Tigers. Christopher Lopez was given the start on the mound, pitching four and two thirds innings, giving up six hits and four earned runs. Lopez threw 103 pitches, striking out two Reivers.

Game Three: Lost 11-1

The Tigers saw some life on Sunday afternoon, taking the early 1-0 lead after the first inning. After the first inning, the hitting woes continued for the Tigers, as they were unable to record another hit the rest of the game. The Reivers were able to add three runs in the second and third innings, two in the fourth, and another three in the fifth.

Game Four: Lost 11-0

The final game of the weekend continued the trend, as the Tigers were unable to score a run and again were limited to only two hits. The Reivers scored first with a single run in the first inning, then added two runs in the second before plating six in the third. Brodie Paulson pitched three and two thirds innings for the Tigers, giving up thirteen hits and ten earned runs.

Up Next:

The Tigers will get one day of practice before heading up to Iowa Falls on Tuesday for a makeup game with the Panthers of Ellsworth Community College. The two teams were originally scheduled to play back on March 27 but the game was cancelled due to weather conditions. The Iowa Valley showdown is scheduled for a 5:00 PM start.
