Marshalltown, IA – Marshalltown Community College Athletic Director, Dr. Kathleen Brown, announced the hiring of Anthony Everman to fill the role of Head Baseball Coach.
"We are excited to have Anthony join our staff as our Head Baseball Coach," stated Dr. Brown. "His experience at multiple collegiate levels and as a professional scout stood out to both me and the committee throughout the interview process. We look forward to him moving the program forward and creating his own culture within the team."
In his opening statement as Head Coach, Everman thanked Dr. Brown and showed his excitement about the community he has brought his family into stating, "I just want to thank Dr. Brown and the committee for this opportunity, I feel like this is a program with a lot of upside and I can't wait to get started. I am excited about being a part of the Marshalltown community. I have known Marshalltown as a place where baseball can thrive and I'm eager to get to know the people of this town and the supporters of the program."
Coach Everman has coached at multiple levels including Junior College, NAIA, and at the NCAA Division I level at Arkansas State University, University of Northern Colorado, Kansas State University, and served as an Associate Scout for the Cleveland Indians from 2011-2012. Everman just recently coached at Benedictine College a Division I NAIA institution playing in the Heart of America Athletic Conference. During Coach Everman's tenure as Head Coach at Benedictine, the Ravens won 82 games highlighted by the 2017 season, when the Ravens won 35 games and finished 22-10 in the conference.
"I like helping kids and getting them to the next level, I like guys that want to improve on the field and as a person and I think that is what is special about the junior college level," stated Everman. "Most of the kids coming into this program want to move on to the next level and show up ready to put in the work to make that happen. If we create a culture where that is the expectation, we can be very successful."
Less than a week on the job, Everman is hot on the recruiting trail. With over 16 years of recruiting experience, Everman knows what he wants in players, and not just on the field.
"I look for good people, the person inside the player is very important. Having the toughness and the internal motivation to continue to get better is extremely important. I want guys that have a passion to get better."
After finishing 9-34 a season ago, Everman will look to revive a struggling program with a group of talented returners. Four freshman from last year's team earned All-Region honors in Elijah Bergeron, Walter Hernandez, Jeffry Roldan, and Luke Woodward. Everman is excited to see what this core group of players can do but understands there is a lot more that goes into creating a winning program.
"While we have a group of talented returners it's important to remember that these individuals need to work as a unit. I expect our guys to earn victories through our preparation. They will earn the right to win more games by the hard work they put in in the fall, our winter workouts and into spring competition."
Coach Everman started his tenure as Head Coach on Tuesday, July 10. Eager to get to work, Everman and his family will be moving to Marshalltown in the coming weeks.
