Tigers spend time at Marshalltown House of Compassion

The Marshalltown Community College men's basketball team recently spent time at the Marshalltown House of Compassion, helping serve dinner to local residents.

The Tigers travelled to the local organization, located in downtown Marshalltown, on Friday, Sept. 12. The House of Compassion serves nightly free meals to those in need and serves as a supply closet with household and personal items and as an overnight shelter.

"It was a humbling experience," said Tyler Miller, a freshman from Kentucky. "As a team we were able to give back to others in need. Being from out of state, it was great to interact with local Marshalltown residents and get to know the area. It really is a nice community."

"A majority of our team is from out of state," said head coach Brynjar Brynjarsson, "so it's good for these kids to get to know the area and get to know the people that support them throughout the community over the course of the season."

One House of Compassion employee noted that the men's basketball kitchen staff was not like any other they've had before. "I must say, for the most part, this is the tallest kitchen crew we have ever had."

The men's basketball season tips-off on Oct. 31 at home against Quakerdale Academy as part of the Emerson JUCO Classic.
