Rodriguez earns second straight Player of the Week honor

Sophomore Mike Rodriguez (Boston, MA/Redemption Christian Academy) of the Marshalltown Community College men's basketball team has earned his second consecutive Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Player of the Week honor after leading the Tigers to a 2-1 record last week.

Rodriguez averaged 26.0 points per game over the three-game stretch, extending his streak of at least 20 points in a game to 10 dating back to the end of the 2013-14 season. The sophomore scored 27 points on 8-14 shooting in a 103-59 win over Little Priest Tribal College on Tuesday. Against No. 3 South Plains College, Rodriguez went for 26 as the Tigers fell late to the Texans, 94-85 at the Bowling RV Classic in Ottumwa, IA. Rodriguez closed out the week with 25 points in a 106-101 victory over McCook Community College on Saturday.

The guard also averaged 7.3 assists per contest to go along with 4.7 rebounds per game. Rodriguez also snagged nine steals on the week, including six against Little Priest Tribal College.

The Tigers travel to John Wood Community College for a nonconference matchup at 7:00 PM on Wednesday.
