Winning streak hits six as MCC drops St. John's Academy 95-80

Freeport, IL—Terence Shelby Jr. (Peoria, IL/Limestone) continued to have the hot hand for the Marshalltown Community College men's basketball team as the sophomore scored 24 points on 9-12 shooting to carry the Tigers to a 95-80 win over St. John's Academy at the William R. Bear Classic hosted by Highland Community College. The Tigers have now won six straight games.

MCC (12-3) connected on nearly 60 percent of its shots as Shelby Jr. reached the 20-point plateau for the seventh time this year. The sophomore drained four of his six three-point attempts on the night and has now connected on 16 of his last 27 treys over the team's last four games.

Mike Rodriguez (Boston, MA/Redemption Christian Academy) scored 19 points, all in the second half, to go along with a team-high 11 assists for his second double-double in the team's last three games. Merdic Green (Levittown, PA/Harry S. Truman) also posted a double-double, scoring 15 points with a team-best 11 rebounds.

Tyler Miller (Louisville, KY/22ft Academy) provided one of the best games of his young career as the freshman scored 13 points in 34 minutes, both personal bests. Miller and Green combined for four assists each as the Tigers tallied 27 helpers on 38 field goals on the night.

The Tigers will take on tournament hosts Highland at 1:00 PM tomorrow afternoon. Depending on the outcome, the Tigers will face either Moberly Area Community College or Sauk Valley Community College at 7:00 PM or 9:00 PM.
