NJCAA Division I All-Region XI Men's Basketball Team

Sophomores Mike Rodriguez (Boston, MA/Redemption Christian Academy) and Merdic Green (Levittown, PA/Harry S. Truman) of the Marshalltown Community College men's basketball team have been recognized on the NJCAA Division I All-Region XI squads. Rodriguez was a first-team selection while Green earned honorable mention status.

Rodriguez finished his career as one of the most prolific scorers in program history, becoming just the second 1,000 point scorer since 2002. The sophomore finished his career with 1,154 career points, including 719 this season which ranked third nationally. His 230 total free throws ranked second among all NJCAA Division I players.

Rodriguez led the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) with a 22.5 points per game average, five full points more than the next highest scorer. The Tigers' primary point guard also ranked second in the league in assists per game. Rodriguez scored at least 20 points on 23 occasions, including three games of at least 30 points.

Green started all 32 games as a sophomore, giving him 62 of a possible 63 career starts in his tenure as a Tiger. Green averaged 13.8 points per game, third-best on the team, while averaging a team-best 6.4 rebounds per contest. The sophomore provided a spark in the 2015 Region XI Tournament, averaging 27.0 points on 65.3 percent shooting while averaging 11.5 rebounds in two games as the Tigers reached the semifinal round.

Both players were recognized by the NJCAA for an outstanding weekly performance, as Rodriguez garnered Division I National Player of the Week recognition on Dec. 17 and Green closed out his MCC career as the Division I National Player of the Week on March 4 for his play in the Region XI Tournament.

The two players combined for 36 wins over their two seasons at MCC.
