Tigers run past Little Priest Tribal College 109-66

Winnebago, NE—Sophomore Christal Malalu (Eindhoven, Netherlands/Koning Willem I) scored a career-high 18 points to lead the Marshalltown Community College Men's Basketball team to a 109-66 victory at Little Priest Tribal College on Sunday afternoon. The Tigers improve to 7-1 on the year.

Malalu was one of five players to score in double-figures for MCC as all 13 players reached the scoring column. Through two games against the Warriors this season, the Tigers are averaging 111.5 points per game, including the team's 114-87 win Nov. 14 at the Student Activity Center.

Malalu scored 10 points in the second half as MCC outscored Little Priest 63-41 in the final 20 minutes. Amir Maddred (Camden, NJ/Camden) and Jamil Maddred (Camden, NJ/Camden) each scored 12 points for the Tigers while Paulius Sakinis (Klaipeda, Lithuania/Lourdes Central Catholic) and Guilherme Verardo (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Esporte Clube Pinheiros) added 11 points apiece.

MCC's 109 points came with just two made free throws on the day as the Tigers reached the line only four times. MCC knocked down seven three-point shots with two each coming from Jamil Maddred, Nick Cross (Beverly, MA/Beverly), and Reggie Gradwell (Marshalltown, IA/West Marshall).

Jonas Perkis (Trondheim, Norway/Charlottenlund VG) also posted a career-high with eight points, all coming in the second half for the Tigers.

The 7-1 record is the best start for an MCC team since the 2012-13 team began the season 11-0.

MCC heads to Ellsworth Community College on Tuesday night to take on the Panthers at 7:30 PM as part of a doubleheader with the MCC Women's Basketball team which tips off at 5:30 PM against Ellsworth.
