Nick Cross named ICCAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week

Freshman Nick Cross (Beverly, MA/Beverly) of the Marshalltown Community College Men's Basketball team has been named the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Men's Basketball Player of the Week. Cross averaged 17 points across four games last week to earn the honor.

The freshman saved his best performance for the final game of the week, pouring in a career-high 26 points on 8-16 shooting in an 85-75 loss to Sauk Valley Community College in the William R. Bear Classic hosted by Highland Community College. The Tigers went 1-2 at the tournament.

In the team's first game last week, Cross scored 15 points after hitting five three-point shots in a 91-69 loss to Southwestern Community College on Wednesday.

MCC opened up the Highland classic on Friday with a 104-79 victory over Midwest Elite Prep behind 16 points, five rebounds, and five assists from Cross. In Saturday's semifinal contest, a hard-fought 70-66 loss to Highland, Cross hit three three-point shots and finished with 11 points before his career-best effort against Sauk Valley. Cross also grabbed a career-high eight rebounds in the final game of the week.

After hitting 16 total three-pointers last week, Cross now leads the ICCAC with 42 makes from beyond the arc while shooting 40.4 percent on the year. The freshman currently leads MCC with 11.1 points per game after reaching double-figures in each of his last five games.

The Tigers wrap up the first half of the season with a home game at 7:00 PM Wednesday night against Iowa Lakes. The MCC Women's Basketball team hosts Iowa Lakes at 5:00 PM.
