JeAnn Hiraldo, Amir Maddred earn Athlete of the Week honors

A pair of Marshalltown Community College basketball players have earned weekly honors from the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC). Sophomore Amir Maddred (Camden, NJ/Camden) of the MCC Men's Basketball team and sophomore JeAnn Hiraldo (Ames, IA/Ames) of the MCC Women's Basketball team have earned Athlete of the Week honors.

Maddred helped lead the Tigers to their first conference win of the year after scoring 16 points and grabbing eight rebounds in a 71-58 victory over Northeast Community College at home Saturday night. Maddred connected on 6-10 shooting from the floor. Despite a mid-week loss to No. 7 Indian Hills Community College, Maddred led the Tigers with 14 points and six rebounds, shooting 5-9 from the field.

Maddred ranks fifth in the conference in field goal percentage at 59.7 percent. The sophomore's 10.5 points per game rank second on the MCC team.

On the women's side, Hiraldo averaged a double-double over two games last week. The sophomore scored 15 points and grabbed 14 rebounds in a loss to William Penn JV. Hiraldo also grabbed one steal and blocked two shots. Against conference opponent Northeast, Hiraldo led the Tigers with 17 points and eight rebounds to go along with four steals and three blocks.

Hiraldo leads the ICCAC in three separate categories- points per game (17.2), rebounds per game (9.3), and blocks per game (2.0). Hiraldo's 361 points are 94 more than next highest scorer in the league. The sophomore's 2.5 steals per game and 74.7 free throw percentage rank third in the conference as well.

Both teams are back in action for a conference doubleheader against Iowa Western Community College on Wednesday night. The women tip-off at 5:00 PM followed by the men at 7:00 PM.
