Ottumwa, IA—The Marshalltown Community College Men's Basketball team's season came to an end on Wednesday night, falling to top-seeded and No. 6 ranked Indian Hills Community College in the Region XI Tournament semifinal round. The Tigers finish the season with an 18-14 mark.
Sophomore Vincent Lasley (Tama, IA/South Tama) and freshman Nick Cross (Beverly, MA/Beverly) led the Tigers with 17 points and freshman Jamil Maddred (Camden, NJ/Camden) added 11 points off of the bench.
Despite shooting 56.0 percent in the first half, including 55.6 percent from three-point range, the Tigers found themselves in a 58-42 deficit at halftime. 16 turnovers and a 65.6 shooting percentage from the Warriors led to the intermission margin.
MCC finished the game shooting 46.7 percent from the floor, but Indian Hills connected on 56.3 percent (36-64) of its shots to advance to the Region XI Tournament Championship game. The Warriors will host No. 2 seed Iowa Western Community College on Saturday night after the Reivers defeated No. 3 seed Southeastern Community College 76-57.
Lasley recorded his fifth double-double of the season after grabbing a team-high 10 rebounds. Both teams were even on the glass with 37 rebounds apiece.
Cross carried the Tigers in the first half, scoring 14 points on 4-5 shooting, including 3-4 from three-point range. A pair of threes from Cross early on gave MCC a 10-6 lead, but the Warriors potent offense came alive and erased the deficit. MCC pulled back within four, 39-35 late in the first half, but Indian Hills finished the frame on a 19-7 run in the closing minutes.
