Preito's range buries Iowa Central on the road

Fort Dodge, IA—Sophomore Floyd Preito (Philadelphia, PA/Constitution) connected on five three-point shots, including three in the second half to lead the Marshalltown Community College men's basketball team to a 76-56 rout at Iowa Central Community College on Monday night. Preito finished with a season-best 19 points in the win.

The Tigers used a 14-2 run to close out the first half and opened up the second half with a pair of baskets to extend MCC's sizable advantage. The Tigers led by double-digits for the entire second half to improve to 8-2 on the year.

Sophomore Brandon Simmons (Harlem, NY/Teaneck) scored 16 points and corralled a team-high 12 rebounds to go along with two blocks on the night. Jamir Coleman (San Antonio, TX/Pro Vision) hit three three-point shots to finish the night with 15 points off of the bench while Souf Mensah (Nantes, France/Canarias) added 10 points and six assists.

Deadlocked at 13 in the first half, Preito got his night started with five straight points for the Tigers. Iowa Central kept things close on its home floor and took a 27-26 lead with under four minutes remaining in the half. Preito buried another three to break a 29-29 tie to fuel the Tigers' run at the end of the half for a 40-29 lead at the break.

After a pair of quick baskets to start the second half, MCC found itself in a slight drought, but the team's defensive effort contained the opposition. Coleman ended the offensive silence with consecutive three-point shots to give MCC its largest lead of the night 54-37 with under 12 to play. Simmons' low-post play, paired with Preito's long-range threat carried the Tigers the rest of the way.

MCC dominated the rebounding battle once again with a 58-29 edge, including a decisive 20-3 advantage on the offensive glass.

The Tigers close out the month of November at home against Graceland JV on Nov. 30 for a 7:00 PM matchup.
