Dismal start dooms MCC at Kirkwood

Cedar Rapids, IA—An early deficit paired with an efficient shooting night from the opposition overwhelmed the Marshalltown Community College men's basketball team as the Tigers fell 100-80 to Kirkwood Community College on Wednesday night. Sophomore Reggie Gradwell (Marshalltown, IA/West Marshall) led MCC with 13 points.

The Eagles connected on five of their first six shots, including a pair of three pointers to jump out to a 14-0 lead at the start of the game. The deficit stayed in double-digits for the remainder of the night for the Tigers.

Gradwell went 5-9 from the field and hit three three-point shots to pace MCC offensively. Floyd Preito (Philadelphia, PA/Constitution) scored 12 second half points and Juan Coffi (Barcelona, Spain/Canarias) added 12 as well. BJ Millard (Dunwoody, GA/Dunwoody) chipped in 11 points while Mohamed Thiam (Dekar, Senegal/Canarias) scored 10 points and pulled down a team-high eight rebounds.

The loss is the second of the season to the Eagles after Kirkwood edged MCC 78-75 on Nov. 16.

The Tigers open up Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) play on Saturday night with a trip to Southeastern Community College at 7:00 PM.
