Men's Basketball Schedule Released

The Marshalltown Community College Men's Basketball team has announced its schedule for the 2017-18 season. Last season the Tigers finished with a 17-12 record while finishing 3-5 in conference play. The Tigers will look to improve on last year's mark with mature sophomores, led by Mohamed Thiam, and a new group of talented freshman.

The season begins with the Juco Jam in Ames on Saturday October 7, where teams from all over the Midwest will compete. The following weekend the team will travel to Davenport Iowa to scrimmage St. Ambrose University and Monday October 23 the team will travel to Midland University in their final scrimmage before the regular season starts.

In a highly competitive conference, every conference win is important. The Tigers will travel to Iowa Western Community College on January 13 for its first conference matchup and then host the Reivers on January 31. In another tough conference matchup the Tigers will travel to Indian Hills Community College on January 20 and host the Warriors on February 10. The Tigers dropped both contest with Indian Hills (29-5) and Iowa Western (25-7) last season and hope to improve on that record this year.

Last season the Tigers went 2-1 against the 14-17 Blackhawks of Southeastern Community College. The Tigers defeated the Blackhawks twice during the regular season, 75-67 and 90-86, but were defeated in their third matchup during the first round of the regional tournament 81-71.  The teams will battle again this season on January 17.

The marque matchups this season will be when the Hawks of Northeast Community College come to Marshalltown on January 27. The two teams split games last season, both winning their home competitions. This season, the Tigers will travel to Norfolk on February 24 to try to pick up its first win in Norfolk in two years.
