Tigers move to 2-0 After Victory over Tritons

Monday night the 1-0 MCC Tigers hosted the 1-0 Tritons of Iowa Central Community College. In a fast paced shootout, the Tigers outlasted the Tritons 86-72. Again, Mohamed Thiam had a big game for the Tigers as he dropped 23 points with 7 rebounds. Iowa Central is returning an All Region selection as well in Tray Croft, who had a big game dropping 18 points for the Tritons.

"Mohamed continues to do the right things in the game and in practice, that's why he plays with great consistency," stated Head Coach Brynjar Brynjarsson. "When Mo can consistently get to the basket and make impactful plays in pivotal moments like he did tonight, we are successful."

Goran Vidovic had a good game for the Tigers recording 7 points and 9 rebounds in twenty five minutes of play. Fellow freshmen Eduardo Lane dropped 11 points and picked up 3 rebounds in 16 minutes on the court.  Freshmen so far in the two games this season have stepped up and played very well but none has played better than Oscar Kao. The freshmen guard from Taipei, Taiwan dropped 10 points, had 4 rebounds, and recorded 5 assist on the night. His ability to move and change direction quickly opens up space and provides him the time to make great passes.

"Oscar is a great talent for this team, he played a great first half and struggled in the second but he will work through that and get better as the season progresses," stated coach Brynjarsson after the game.

The 2-0 Tiger men's basketball team will be back in action Tuesday night as they travel to Southwestern Community College to take on the Spartans at 7:00. The Spartans are currently 2-0 after defeating Graceland University JV 94-80 and defeating Little Priest Tribal College 101-78. Southwestern is currently ranked #1 in NJCAA Division II basketball after winning the NJCAA National Championship last season. The contest will be streamed live on the Southwestern Community College Athletic website and will be posted on the MCC Athletics Facebook and Twitter.
