Tigers Fall 97-84 to Southwestern

The MCC men's basketball team traveled to Creston, Iowa to take on the defending NJCAA Division II champion Spartans of Southwestern Community College. The Tigers would struggle on the road Tuesday night as they would be outscored in the first half 55-38. While the team continued to struggle in the second half, the Tigers battled back within five points early in the second half but would eventually fall 97-84.

The Tigers were led in scoring by Goran Vidovic with 16 points, Juan Coffi with 15 points, and Mohamed Thiam with 14 points. Although the Tigers had multiple players with double-digit point totals, the Tigers had issues getting the ball to players with open looks and when they did, balls did not drop their way.

"Tonight showed these guys where they are and how much work there is to do to get where we need to be," stated Head Coach Brynjar Brynjarsson. "We have a group of hard working men that won't take this loss lightly and know that there is work to do to make sure we don't repeat tonight's performance."

The Tigers are back in action on Thursday night when they host Presentation College at 7:00 in the Student Activity Center on the Marshalltown Community College campus. The game will follow the women's game against Little Priest Tribal College that starts at 5:00. Both games will be streamed live with links posted on the MCC Athletics website as well as on the MCC Facebook and Twitter.
