Tigers Win Big on Sophomore Night

Tigers Win Big on Sophomore Night

The MCC men's basketball team took on the Mustangs of Mount Mercy College Monday night in the Student Activity Center. The Tigers dropped to 16-10 on the season after falling to Indian Hills Community College 74-69 on Saturday night. Monday's matchup was also the last regular season home game for the Tigers. Tiger sophomores Berk Karadan, Mohamed Thiam, Tony Smith, and Juan Coffi were recognized prior to the game.

The men's team eased its way to a 86-47 victory Monday night. Freshmen Kelton Edwards came off the bench to lead the Tigers in scoring with 20 points. Edwards was perfect on the night going 8-8 from the field and 1-1 from the free throw line. Berk Karadan had a solid performance, scoring 15 points while grabbing eight rebounds.  Bassirou Ndiaye also came off the bench and scored eleven points for the Tigers.

The Mustangs struggled offensively all night, shooting only 25% from the field. Adan Van Oort led the Mustangs with 13 points while shooting 4-12 from the field. Brady Stoeffler ended with nine points while going 4-11 from the field.

"We were able to win big tonight but it was not our best game," stated Head Coach Brynjar Brynjarsson. "We did not play well offensively or defensively. We had twenty turnovers tonight and that cannot happen in our league if we want to be competitive. It was great to see our sophomores go out with a home win and some that don't see a lot of playing time were able to get in."

The Tigers will be back in action Tuesday, February 20 when they travel to Sedalia, Missouri to take on the Roadrunners of State Fair Community College. The Roadrunners of State Fair currently sit at 17-7 on the season after losing their last two games to Three Rivers Community College and Iowa Western Community College. The game will be streamed live at sfccmoroadrunners.com with links posted on MCC Athletics social media pages.
