Tigers Run Away From Panthers

A grind-it-out, low scoring game between the MCC Tigers and the ECC Panthers was closely played with the exception of six minutes and s seconds. For the visiting Panthers, that 6:16 would ultimately seal their fate as the Tigers went on a 23-4 scoring run to close out the first half. After one half of play, the Tigers lead 43-19.

The slow pace continued in the second half as both teams worked deep into the shot clock on many of their possessions. With the game appearing well in hand for the Tigers at half time, the Panthers proved resilient and did not quit. The ECC defense held the Tigers to just 23 points in the second half on 33.3% shooting. Although the Panthers were able to make up some ground as they shot 44.8% from the field and outscored the Tigers by nine in the final twenty minutes of play, the halftime lead for the Tigers and ultimately the 6:16 to close out the first half proved insurmountable for the visiting team as the Tigers finished off the win 66-51.

The December, 5 matchup of the two Iowa Valley Community Colleges was a rematch of their November, 10 meeting at the Dale Howard Classic. This time, the story of the game wasn't turnovers, but rather the run at the end of the first half as well as rebounding. The Tigers out rebounded the Panther 33-26 and their size proved to be a factor all night as MCC big man Eduardo Lane finished with fourteen points on 6-8 shooting from the field as well as a pair of free-throws. Joining Lane in double-digit point production were Juan Coffi with eleven and freshman guard, Nick Fleming, who came off the bench to score fifteen.

The Tigers will have a week off before returning to action on December, 12 for a contest at Iowa Lakes Community College where the Tigers will look to avenge an early season loss to the Lakers.
