Men's soccer draws 2-2 with Lake County at Kickoff Classic

Rosemount, MN—The Marshalltown Community College men's soccer team opened the first day of the Kickoff Classic with a 2-2 draw against The College of Lake County. Taking part in the Tigers' annual road trip up north, Juan Carillo (Cordoba, Spain/CES Lope de Vega) netted both goals for MCC, each score coming in the first half.

The Tigers (2-1-1), playing at Dakota County Technical College, opened up the scoring as Carillo found the back of the net early on in the first half, scoring his second collegiate goal in the 17th minute on assists from Roberto Velazquez (San Antonio, TX/Ronald Reagan) and Jaime Agujetas (Vigo, Spain/Celta). The freshman recorded his first career multi-goal performance with a score in the 40th minute, this time coming on an assist from fellow freshman John Krause (Slater, IA/Ballard).

Freshman goalie Julian Pena (Muscatine, IA/Muscatine) stopped three shots from the Lancers in 110 minutes of action.

The Tigers fired 14 shots on the day, with nine coming on net.

MCC returns to action on day two of the Kickoff Classic with a 3:30 PM date with Anoka-Ramsey CC tomorrow. The Tigers tied 2-2 with the Golden Rams at last year's invitational. Sophomore Marcus Boehler (Virginia Beach, VA/Niles C. Kinnick) recorded a goal in the match.
