MCC appears in national rankings for third straight week

NSCAA Division I Poll            NJCAA Division I Poll

For the third consecutive week the Marshalltown Community College men's soccer team appeared in both the NJCAA Division I and the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Division I polls. The Tigers come in at No. 19 in the NSCAA poll and remain the Receiving Votes category in the NJCAA poll.

The Tigers dropped three spots in the NSCAA poll from last week, but held their ground in the NJCAA poll in the Receiving Votes category.

MCC opened up the week with a dramatic 3-2 overtime victory against Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) foe Iowa Central Community College to extend its winning streak to five games, all conference victories. The Tigers' streak was snapped after suffering a 1-0 conference loss to Iowa Western Community College, ranked No. 1 in both polls for the second straight week. The Tigers now sit at 9-3-1 overall and 5-2 in league play.

The Tigers defeated the Tritons on Tuesday afternoon at home thanks to a five point performance from freshman striker Juan Carillo (Cordoba, Spain/CES Lope de Vega), including the game-winning goal one minute into overtime. Carillo scored the game's first goal and assisted on the second before burying his fourth game-winner of the year.

The Reivers ended the Tigers winning streak at home on Saturday, defeating MCC for the second time this year. Iowa Western remains the only undefeated team in the country, sporting a 13-0-0 overall record and 7-0-0 league mark.

The Tigers are slated for a pair of conference road matchups this week as they travel to Scott Community College on Wednesday for a 4:00 PM date and will take on Iowa Lakes Community College at 2:00 PM on Saturday. MCC defeated Scott 2-1 on Sept. 14 and dropped Iowa Lakes 4-2 on Sept 17.
