Tigers bounce back with 5-0 win over Scott

Bettendorf, IA—After suffering a hard-fought 1-0 loss to No. 1 Iowa Western Community College on Saturday, the Marshalltown Community College men's soccer team rebounded with a 5-0 victory over Scott Community College on Wednesday. The Tigers sit in second place with a 6-2-0 record in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) and are 10-3-1 overall.

The Tigers used a balance attack against the Eagles as four different players recorded a goal. Hernan Lopez (Muskego, WI/Muskego) recorded his second multi-goal game of his career, scoring one goal in each half. Juan Carrillo (Cordoba, Spain/CES Lope de Vega), this week's ICCAC Offensive Player of the Week, scored the game's first goal of the game and assisted on Lopez's second goal in the 49th minute, putting the Tigers up 4-0.

Celes Vilar (Las Palmas, Spain/Claret-Corazon) dished out a career-high three assists for the Tigers, all coming in the first half as MCC held a 3-0 halftime lead. Vilar found Carrillo for the opening goal and helped put the Tigers up 2-0 with an assist to Lopez in the 37th minute. Vilar hooked up with defenseman Bill Baye (Crystal, MN/Park Center) just before halftime as Baye notched his second goal of the year.

Freshman John Krause (Slater, IA/Ballard) notched his seventh goal of the year in the 63rd minute, the final score of the day for MCC.

Freshman keepers Julian Pena (Muscatine, IA/Muscatine) and Andrew Waterfall (Brandon, SD/Brandon Valley) split time in net with Pena recording one save in the first half to earn his ninth win of the year. The Tigers have now posted five shutouts on the season.

After failing to record a shot on goal against Iowa Western, the Tigers came back against Scott to fire 19 shots on goal and 34 shots overall. MCC also earned 10 corner kicks on the day.

Up next for the Tigers will be another road trip as MCC heads to Iowa Lakes Community College on Saturday afternoon. Kickoff is set for 2:00 PM. The Tigers defeated the Lakers 4-2 on Sept. 17.
