Juan Carrillo picks up third straight ICCAC honor

Freshman Juan Carrillo continues to shine during his first season as a college soccer player. Carrillo has been named the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending Oct. 13, Carrillo's third straight selection for the award.

Carrillo helped lead the Tigers to back-to-back shutouts last week after tallying eight points on three goals and two assists. Carrillo recorded both game-winning goals for the Tigers as MCC defeated Scott Community College 5-0 on Wednesday and Iowa Lakes Community College 5-0 on Saturday.

Against Scott, Carrillo netted the game's first goal in the 14th minute of action to put MCC on the board. The Tigers built on their lead and took a 3-0 advantage into halftime. Carrillo later found Hernan Lopez (Muskegon, WI/Muskegon) in the second half to put MCC up 4-0 in the 49th minute.

Carrillo continued to display his knack for finding the back of the net against Iowa Lakes as the freshman scored on a penalty kick at the 28:21 mark of the first half to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead. Carrillo played a part in the next two goals for MCC as well, assisting to Marcus Boehler (Virginia Beach, VA/Nile C. Kinnick) to close out the first half and scored his second goal of the game in the 70th minute.

Carrillo has led the Tigers on the offensive end throughout the season. Following a 2-1 win over North Iowa Area Community College on Tuesday that saw Carrillo net both goals, Carrillo leads the Tigers with 38 points, 14 goals, and 10 assists. Carrillo is tied for first in the ICCAC in goals and assists and is the sole leader in total points.

Dating back to 2002, Carrillo's 38 points are currently the seventh-best total in school history. His 14 goals and 10 assists are both tied for seventh best.

The Tigers host Indian Hills Community College for the team's final home game of the regular season on Saturday at 2:00 PM.
