Former Tiger Joao Oliveira named Player of the Week

Former Marshalltown Community College men's soccer player Joao Oliveira, a member of the Southern Wesleyan Warriors men's soccer team has been named the Southern States Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending Nov. 2.

Oliveira helped lead the Warriors, an NAIA program in South Carolina, to an upset win over No. 7 nationally ranked Auburn Montgomery with a game-winning goal in overtime. Oliveira also added two goals against Faulkner earlier in the week. Oliveira has four goals and nine points, both tied for second on the team, in 15 games played this year.

Oliveira appeared in 31 games over his two-year career at MCC which concluded in 2012. A native of Sao Paolo, Brazil, Oliveira recorded 34 points in two seasons for the Tigers, coming on 12 goals and 10 assists.

Bruno Liozzi, Oliveira's teammate at MCC, is also a member of the Warriors' men's soccer team.

The Warriors are currently 9-4-2 on the year.
