Men's soccer ranks among nation's best

NJCAA Division I Statistics 

Despite a first round exit from the Region XI Tournament, the Marshalltown Community College men's soccer team ranked among the nation's statistical leaders in 2013, both individually and as a team.

Offensively, the Tigers were led by freshman Juan Carrillo (Cordoba, Spain/CES Lope de Vega) who ranked 18th in NJCAA Division I with 41 total points. Carrillo's 13 assists tied for ninth while his 14 goals were tied for 34th. Carrillo tied for third in the country with seven game-winning goals. Carrillo was named to the All-Region XI First-Team after ranking second in the conference in points and assists and third in goals.

As a team, the Tigers tied for 37th in the country in goals scored with 52 and ranked ninth overall in shots per game with 17.5. MCC also finished 10th in corner kicks with 117.

On the defensive end, freshman goalkeeper Julian Pena (Muscatine, IA/Muscatine) starred in net for the Tigers. The rookie ranked 10th in the nation in wins with 12 as the Tigers finished the season with a 14-4-1 mark. Pena recoded a 0.98 goals against average, good enough for 27th in the country.

The Tigers allowed just 17 goals on the year, the 23rd fewest amount allowed while the team's overall goals against average of 0.89 ranked 13th. The MCC defense was anchored by sophomore Bill Baye (Crystal, MN/Park Center), and freshmen Jaime Agujetas (Vigo, Spain/Celta), Marquell Comer (Tallahassee, FL/Lincoln), and Jordan Gilmore (Craigavon, UK/Craigavon).

MCC closed out the year ranked No. 20 in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Division I poll. The Tigers climbed as high as No. 15 on the year. MCC received votes in the latest NJCAA Division I poll.
