Juan Carrillo named ICCAC Offensive Player of the Week

Sophomore Juan Carrillo (Cordoba, Spain/CES Lope de Vega) of the Marshalltown Community College men's soccer team has been named the first Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Offensive Player of the Week for the 2014 season.

The award is Carrillo's fourth since joining the Tigers in 2013. The forward earned offensive player of the week honors in three consecutive weeks (10-1/10-18) as a freshman.

After being held scoreless in Saturday's 2-1 loss to Oakton Community College, Carrillo rebounded for a breakout performance in a 6-1 win over Carl Sandburg College. The sophomore recorded his first career hat-trick for the Tigers to give him five goals on the year.

Carrillo's first goal came on an assist from Eniz Smajlovic in the 31st minute to put the Tigers up 2-0. Carrillo opened the second half with a penalty kick in the 52nd minute and completed the trifecta with a goal in the 60th minute.

With the three goals and six points, Carrillo moved into a tie for sixth-place in both categories in the MCC record books. Carrillo is also tied for sixth with 14 career assists.

The Tigers return to action at home against No. 1 Iowa Western Community College at 2:00 PM on Saturday afternoon.
