Five players score as MCC drops UNI Club at home

Marshalltown, IA—The Marshalltown Community College men's soccer team posted its fourth consecutive win on Saturday, dropping the University of Northern Iowa Club team 5-0. Five different players scored for the Tigers.

Taking a break from Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) play, the Tigers hosted the UNI Club team at home. Juan Carrillo (Cordoba, Spain/CES Lope de Vega) scored the game's first goal on an assist from Jose Cordova (Marshalltown, IA/Marshalltown) from seven yards out in the ninth minute.

Celes Vilar (Las Palmas, Spain/San Antonio Maria Claret) scored just over two minutes later on an assist from Carrillo to double the Tigers' lead. Jordan Gilmore (Portadown, UK/Craigavon) one-timed a shot off of a corner kick in the 15th minute for the 3-0 lead. Carrillo was credited with the assist, his third assist off of a corner kick this season.

The Tigers' scoring was halted until the second half when Charles Huberty (Champlin, MN/Prairie Seeds) beat the UNI Club goalie in the 68th minute from close range. David Gomez (Marshalltown, IA/Marshalltown) kept the crowd entertained in the 73rd minute with a bicycle kick that found the back of the net on an assist from Marquell Comer (Tallahassee, FL/Lincoln) to cap off the scoring.

With the four points on the day, Carrillo continued to rise in the all-time ranks at MCC. The sophomore moved into sole possession of second place in all-time assists with 23. Former All-American Arkenson Neckels ranks first with 25. Carrillo also moved into sole possession of fourth place on the all-time points list with 73. Neckels is tied with Marcelo Serrano for the all-time points lead with 99. 

In the team's four straight wins, MCC is outscoring its opponents 14-3, including three shutouts. Freshman Kwan Tolbert (Conway, AR/Conway) got the start in net and combine with sophomore Julian Pena (Muscatine, IA/Muscatine) to blank the UNI Club.

Next up for the Tigers will be a trip to Ames, IA to take on the Iowa State Club team at 5:00 PM on Sept. 30.
