Tigers come up short in Region XI Tournament

Des Moines, IA—The Marshalltown Community College men's soccer season came to an end on Saturday afternoon, falling 3-1 to Iowa Lakes Community College in the Region XI Tournament semi-final round. The Tigers finish the year with a 13-7 overall record.

The second-seeded Tigers took the initial lead in the match as freshman Agustin Ortiz (Marshalltown, IA/Marshalltown) headed home a corner kick from sophomore Juan Carrillo (Cordoba, Spain/CES Lope de Vega) in the 17th minute. The Lakers responded just seven minutes later with the equalizer.

Iowa Lakes would go on to convert a penalty kick in the 57th minute and added an insurance goal in the 69th minute to advance to championship match against top-seeded Iowa Western Community College who defeated fourth-seeded Iowa Central Community College 1-0 on Saturday.

With the assist on Saturday, his 16th of the year, Carrillo became the all-time single season assists leader. The sophomore also extended his career assists record to 29. Carrillo finishes his two-year MCC career with 29 assists and 28 goals for a total of 85 points, third on the program's all-time list.

The 13 wins for the Tigers are the fourth consecutive year with at least 12 wins.
