Jordan Gilmore commits to play for Trevecca Nazarene

Jordan Gilmore, a member of the Marshalltown Community College men's soccer team has committed to Trevecca Nazarene University to play for the Trojans in the fall of 2015. Gilmore was a captain in 2014 for the Tigers.

Trevecca, located in Nashville, TN, is a NCAA Division II program that competes in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference. The Trojans finished the 2014 season with a 5-10-1 record and a 3-4-1 mark in league play.

Gilmore, a native of Portadown, Northern Ireland, came to Marshalltown as a freshman in 2013. "Moving to America at the start was a big struggle for me," Gilmore stated. "But within no time, I was part of a family that I will remember for the rest of my life. Being a part of MCC as a student and a captain on the soccer team has been one of the best experiences I have known to date. I just wish that I had a little more time to spend in Marshalltown, IA."

Gilmore played in 38 games in his two-year career at MCC, making 29 starts, including 19 in his final season. A primary defender, Gilmore scored three goals and added three assists, all coming as a sophomore. Gilmore was named a first-team All-Region XI selection in 2014. As a freshman, Gilmore was named to the NJCAA Region XI All-Academic First-Team.

Gilmore attributed much of his success at MCC to head coach Rafael Martinez. "Coach Martinez has been, to date, the best coach I have ever played under. Not to mention the help from assistant coaches Osmundson and Jenness. With a year under my belt, I came into my sophomore year more mature and knew that we needed to succeed. I cannot stress how grateful I am to be a part of this family."

Soccer was not Gilmore's only extracurricular activity on campus as he served as an RA in the dorms, a peer leader for his favorite teacher, Connie Gardalen, worked on campus as a Desk Assistant, and was a member of Phi Theta Kappa Honors Society. "As for living on campus, I was blessed to be involved in a lot of the MCC way of life. Now that I am moving on, I will not forget my background at MCC, as I would call Marshalltown my home. I wish I could have more time with my soccer squad and friends but unfortunately that's not the case. I would just like to thank everyone who made MCC a delight for me and wish everyone a great future there."
