No. 5 MCC remains unbeaten after 2-0 win at Iowa Central

Fort Dodge, IA—Sophomore Daniel Barrera (Naples, FL/Naples) scored a first half goal and Alberto Morales (Granada, Spain/Santa Fe DH) added an insurance goal in the second half as the No. 5 Marshalltown Community College Men's Soccer team remained unbeaten with a 2-0 win at Iowa Central Community College on Wednesday.
The Tigers (14-0-1) improved their school-record unbeaten streak to 15 games and remain in first place in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) with a 10-0-1 league mark.
Barrera netted his second-career goal, both coming this year, in the 11th minute after gathering a loose ball in the box following a corner kick from Morales. The Tigers held on to their one-goal advantage for the remainder of the first half.
Morales, this week's ICCAC Offensive Player of the Week, added to his point total on the afternoon with a goal in the 51st minute. Freshman Sirleaf Wiah (Brooklyn Park, MN/Prairie Seeds) weaved his way through Triton traffic, dodging multiple defenders inside the box. Wiah played a ball off to the right side and Morales sent a strike in to the back of the net for the 2-0 lead.
In his last three games, Morales has totaled 13 points, with five goals and three assists. The freshman's 26 points leads the ICCAC while his 11 goals are tied for first.
Freshman Rafael Pereira (Lisbon, Portugal/Escola Secundaria Ferreira Vergilio) made five saves on the day, all coming in the second half to preserve the shutout for the Tigers, lowering his season goals against average to 0.41, the best mark in the nation.
With three conference games remaining, the Tigers have matched the 2013 and 2008 teams for second-most conference wins in school history with 10. The 2007 team, which finished third in the nation, finished with a 12-2-0 league mark.
MCC finishes the regular season with a 2-0 record against Iowa Central, blanking the Tritons in both matches this year after winning 1-0 at home on Sept. 15. Wednesday's shutout was the 10th of the season for the Tigers, second only to the 2007 team that blanked 14 opponents.
The Tigers return to MCC for its biggest home match of the year on Saturday when No. 12 and second place Iowa Western Community College (11-1-3/9-0-2) comes to town for a 2:00 PM match. The two teams tied 0-0 in Council Bluffs, IA on Sept. 19.
