Pereira, Ryosuke sweep weekly ICCAC awards

The No. 17 Marshalltown Community College Men's Soccer team swept the weekly Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Athlete of the Week honors as freshman Kino Ryosuke (Hyogo, Japan/Takigawadaini) was named the player of the week while sophomore Rafael Pereira (Lisbon, Portugal/Escola Secundaria Vergilio Ferreira) earned the goalkeeper nod.

Pereira, who earned four ICCAC Goalie of the Week honors as a freshman in 2015, received his first weekly accolade of 2016 after posting a pair of conference shutouts last week. Pereira stopped four shots in net against No. 15 Iowa Lakes Community College as the Tigers won 3-0.

MCC rolled to an 8-0 victory over Northeast Community College on Saturday to improve to 5-1-0 overall and 4-1-0 in ICCAC play. The shutout was Pereira's third of the season and 13th for his career.

Pereira's 0.71 goals against average ranks second in the league while his three shutouts are tied for first nationally.

On the offensive end, Ryosuke was awarded his second-straight ICCAC Offensive Player of the Week honor after tallying eight points in the team's two wins last week. The freshman assisted on all three goals against Iowa Lakes and added two goals and an assist against Northeast.

Ryosuke has totaled at least two points in all six matches this year. The freshman's 22 points are tied for second-best in the nation while his eight goals are tied for first. Ryosuke's six assists are tied for the third-most among all NJCAA Division I participants.

Both Pereira and Ryosuke are back in action with the Tigers on Wednesday night as MCC travels to Iowa Central Community College for a 4:00 PM matchup.
