No. 3 MCC handles Hawkeye CC 7-1 at home

Marshalltown, IA—The Marshalltown Community College Men's Soccer team made their first appearance of the season as a top-three nationally ranked team on Tuesday and proved they belonged with a 7-1 victory over Hawkeye Community College.

The Tigers, ranked No. 3 in this week's NJCAA Division I poll put five different players in the scoring column. Freshmen Kino Ryosuke (Hyogo, Japan/Takigawadaini) and Bruno Osorio (El Masnou, Spain/Turbula) each tallied two goals in the victory.

Despite a lone mistake late in the second half, the Tigers controlled the Redtails from start to finish. MCC used 41 shots, including 19 on goal to improve to 8-1-0 overall on the year and 7-1-0 in Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) play. Hawkeye, the newest collegiate member to the ICCAC, fell to 4-4-1 overall and 4-3-1 in league play.

MCC opened up the match with a goal in the 13th minute after Andre Santos (Lisbon, Portugal/Externato Seneca) sent a cross in from the right side that found the head of Jose Moreno (Cordoba, Spain/I.E.S. Blas Infante) for the initial lead. Ryosuke, the nation's leading scorer, doubled the lead on an assist from Fernando Gutierrez (Ibiza, Spain/I.E.S. Algarb) three minutes later.

Osorio buried his first goal of the day in the 30th minute after finding an opening in the corner of the net. Sophomore Pedro Oliveira (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil/Colegio Estadual) was credited with the assist. The Tigers took the 3-0 lead into halftime after sophomore Rafael Pereira (Lisbon, Portugal/Escola Secundaria Vergilio Ferreira) was not tested in net.

A barrage of scoring took place in the opening minutes of the second half. Freshman Roger De la Villa (Barcelona, Spain/Escola Sant Gregori) sent home a shot on an assist from Osorio at the 54:29 mark, but the Redtails responded with a goal just 44 seconds later. Less than a minute after Hawkeye's lone goal of the match, Osorio picked up his second goal of the day after receiving a pass from Thiago Fernandes (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil/Colegio Dom Oton Mota) from the top of the box.

Freshman Antonio Savi (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil/Colegio PH) slid a pass through the back line of the Redtails as Gabriel Perez (Guayaquil, Ecuador/Profesor Maximo Trueba) received the assist and delivered his fourth goal of the year with under seven minutes to play. Ryosuke tacked on one more goal with 2:03 remaining, his 13th of the season. Osorio was credited with the assist to set a new personal-best with six points on the day.

With two goals on Tuesday, Ryosuke is now tied for first in the NJCAA with 32 points while his 13 goals are tied for second most in the nation.

The Tigers' have now scored at least seven goals in a match four times this year. The team's 41 total goals are tied for fourth in the nation with fellow ICCAC foe Iowa Western. The team also ranks fifth nationally with 187 shots on the year

MCC travels to North Iowa Area Community college on Saturday afternoon for a 2:00 PM matchup. The Tigers defeated the Trojans 3-2 in double overtime on August 27.
