For just the second time in program history, the Marshalltown Community College men's soccer team will take part in a top-5 matchup as the NJCAA No. 3 ranked Tigers travel to No. 4 Iowa Western Community College on Saturday afternoon. Kickoff is set for 2:00 PM at the Reiver Sports Complex.
MCC currently sports a No. 3 ranking in the latest NJCAA Division I Men's Soccer poll, tied for the best rank in program history. The 2007 team took on No. 2 ranked Yavapai Community College in the national tournament, but fell 3-0 for the program's only other matchup between two top-5 teams.
The Tigers and Reivers will battle on the pitch for the second time this season. MCC upset then-No. 3 Iowa Western 2-0 on Sept. 17 in Marshalltown. The win was the first for the Tigers over Iowa Western since the 2012 Region XI Championship match where MCC won 1-0 and eventually advanced to the NJCAA Tournament.
Prior to MCC's victory over the Reivers on Sept. 17, MCC had gone 0-5-2 in the last seven matchups, including a pair of scoreless draws in 2015. The Reivers' latest victory over MCC came in the 2015 Region XI Championship, a 1-0 double overtime victory.
