Tigers hold steady at No. 3 in NJCAA poll

NJCAA Division I Men's Soccer Poll

For the third consecutive week the Marshalltown Community College men's soccer team held its ground with the No. 3 ranking in the NJCAA Division I Men's Soccer poll. The Tigers received 18 points in this week's national poll.

MCC (9-1-1/8-1-1) tied its only match of the week last week, a 1-1 draw with Iowa Western Community College (9-1-1/9-1-1) on Saturday. The Reivers remained at No. 4 in this week's poll, the third consecutive week Iowa Western has been one spot behind the Tigers.

The Tigers and Reivers battled through 110 minutes of soccer on Saturday to end in the 1-1 tie. Freshman Kino Ryosuke (Hyogo, Japan/Takigawadaini) scored the lone goal for MCC while sophomore Rafael Pereira (Lisbon, Portugal/Escola Secundaria Vergilio Ferreira) stopped seven shots in net.

Also appearing in the rankings from the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) is Iowa Lakes Community College who received votes for the fourth consecutive week. MCC will host the Lakers at 4:00 PM on Tuesday afternoon. The Tigers defeated Iowa Lakes 3-0 on Sept. 6 when the Lakers were ranked No. 15 in the poll.

The No. 3 ranking is tied for the highest ranking in school history, joining the 2007 team who finished the season ranked No. 3 after reaching the national tournament.
