Men's soccer adds MCC alum Alex Vajgrt as strength coach

Alex Vajgrt has been hired as the volunteer strength and conditioning coach for the Marshalltown Community College men's soccer team.

An MCC alum, Vajgrt will work directly with the team to incorporate new training and recovery methods for the players. Vajgrt brings a wealth of experience to the Tigers that will help bring the team's training to the next level.

"We're excited about the opportunity to work with Alex," MCC soccer head coach Rafael Martinez exclaimed. "We feel that he is an addition that will not only improve our program but will also help our student-athletes develop into attractive prospects for quality four-year programs. With the way that our program continues to grow, we felt the need to add an extra component that focuses on the strength and conditioning aspect of the game. Alex's knowledge and experience will compensate for the physical stress that the game puts on our players."

Vajgrt, a Marshalltown native, attended MCC in the fall of 2012 and earned his Liberal Arts degree. Following his time at MCC, Vajgrt moved on to Iowa State University where he interned with the strength and conditioning program. Through the Olympic Sport program, Vajgrt coached multiple athletes on a variety of teams, including women's soccer, softball, volleyball, golf, and gymnastics.

While at Iowa State, Vajgrt assisted in leading athletes through both off-season and in-season programming while developing his own philosophy under veteran coaches at the Divsion I level. Vajgrt graduated from Iowa State in the summer of 2016 with a bachelor's degree in Kinesiology and Health.

Vajgrt has also spent time working at The Jefferson Fieldhouse sports performance center in Jefferson, IA where he was able to design and implement a speed and agility program for 30 high school athletes.

Vajgrt became certified as a strength and conditioning specialist through the NSCA's CSCS test. Vajgrt also holds a certification for First Aid/AED, holds his Iowa Board of Education Coaching Authorization, and is an ACE Certified Personal Trainer.

Along side his duties at MCC, Vajgrt also assists the junior varsity soccer team at Marshalltown High School and volunteers as a strength coach for Des Moines Area Community College.
